Description

Fontana goes digital. Set the temperature to the degree, the oven holds it. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, meat probes, app control. The thing is: it's still an Italian dome with a real stone underneath. The tech doesn't replace the cook, it just takes the guessing out.

Handmade in Mantua, Italy, since 1978.

Fontana built the first metal wood-fired pizza oven in the world. Forty-five years later, the same family still runs the shop. The build quality speaks for itself, even when an app is managing the fire.

Our advice

The Volta 70 is the first generation of Fontana's smart hybrid oven. You set the exact temperature on the panel or the app, the oven holds it. The two meat probes track internal cooking in real time. It's the entry format of the Volta range, built for two 12" pizzas or precise cooks (steak, salmon, bread).

We recommend it if: you cook for 2 to 4 people on average, you want digital precision on a real Italian stone, you see the oven as a kitchen tool, not just a pizza oven.

Choose the Volta 90 if: you regularly host 6 people and up, you want three 12" pizzas at once with the same digital control.

Choose the Napoli if: you want traditional hybrid without the digital tech, in a comparable compact format.

Our suggestion: pair it with the Fontana pizza desk (sold separately) for a clean install, or set it directly on a countertop at least 24 inches deep. And consider the Saputo stones if you're chasing pure Neapolitan at 900°F in 60 seconds.

Maintenance and Precautions

Daily care

  • Let the oven cool completely before cleaning
  • Brush the cooking stone with a brass brush, never water or soap directly on a hot stone
  • Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and mild stainless steel cleaner
  • Clean the digital module with a slightly damp cloth only, never chemicals

Winter and protection

  • The Volta 70 is built to stay outdoors year-round thanks to stainless steel
  • We strongly recommend a Fontana cover to protect the electronics from rain and snow
  • In very cold weather, bring the oven up gradually on first fire to avoid thermal shock
  • If you store it in a shed for winter, disconnect the power

Don't

  • Never use the oven without the chimney cap installed
  • Never pour cold water on a hot stone (it cracks)
  • Never expose the digital module directly to rain without a cover

Why we love it

We chose Fontana because they've been building ovens in Italy since 1978. The Volta 70 is our pick when you want Fontana performance with digital control: pro-grade precision, without having to watch the flame.

Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us
What makes the Volta 70 "smart"?
The Volta uses a patented electronic gas valve that holds the exact temperature you set, even when you open the door or load multiple pizzas. The module shows oven temp and meat temp in real time, and you can control everything from the app on your phone. It's the first time a Fontana oven offers this level of automated precision.
Can the Volta really cook on wood?
Yes, with the hybrid kit sold separately. The wood grate sits just above the gas burner, without reducing cooking space. You get the live wood flame and Italian cook character, with the option to switch back to gas when you want simplicity.
Do I need electricity to run the Volta 70?
Yes, the digital module needs a standard 120V outlet. The oven itself runs on gas, but the control module, display, and probes need to be plugged in. Plan for a protected outdoor outlet near your install location.
Does the Volta 70 run on natural gas?
The Volta 70 ships with propane as standard. To switch to natural gas, you need the Fontana conversion kit. It's a simple installation, best done when you first install the oven.
What's the difference between the Volta 70 and the Volta 90?
The Volta 70 has a 480 sq in cooking surface for two 12" pizzas, the Volta 90 jumps to 672 sq in for three pizzas. The 90 also has a more powerful burner (72,000 BTU vs 61,500). Same digital tech, same build quality. If you regularly host 6 people and up, the 90 is worth the step up.
What's the warranty on the Volta 70?
Fontana offers 2 years against manufacturing defects. Our Lapizzashop team handles every warranty claim in English or French, directly with Fontana. For complete terms, reach out. If anything ever goes wrong, you call or write, we handle it with you.
