Description

The bigger Volta. Three 12-inch pizzas at once, 72,000 BTU, same digital precision as the 70. For hosts who want the app control and the capacity to feed eight people without a second batch. The tech doesn't replace the cook, it just takes the guessing out.

Handmade in Mantua, Italy, since 1978.

Fontana built the first metal wood-fired pizza oven in the world. Forty-five years later, the same family still runs the shop. The build quality speaks for itself, even when an app is managing the fire.

Our advice

The Volta 90 is the large format of Fontana's smart range. You set the exact temperature on the panel or the app, the oven holds it. The two meat probes track internal cooking in real time. It's the oven you go to when you host regularly and want precision without the work.

We recommend it if: you host 6 to 10 people regularly, you want three pizzas at once with digital control, you also cook roasts, bread, and bigger dishes.

Choose the Volta 70 if: you cook for 2 to 4 people, the compact format is enough.

Choose the Roma if: you want the XL traditional hybrid (four 12" pizzas) without the digital tech.

Our suggestion: pair it with the Fontana pizza desk (sold separately) for a clean install, or set it directly on a countertop at least 28 inches deep. And consider the Saputo stones if you're chasing pure Neapolitan at 900°F in 60 seconds.

Maintenance and Precautions

Daily care

  • Let the oven cool completely before cleaning
  • Brush the cooking stone with a brass brush, never water or soap directly on a hot stone
  • Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and mild stainless steel cleaner
  • Clean the digital module with a slightly damp cloth only, never chemicals

Winter and protection

  • The Volta 90 is built to stay outdoors year-round thanks to stainless steel
  • We strongly recommend a Fontana cover to protect the electronics from rain and snow
  • In very cold weather, bring the oven up gradually on first fire to avoid thermal shock
  • If you store it in a shed for winter, disconnect the power

Don't

  • Never use the oven without the chimney cap installed
  • Never pour cold water on a hot stone (it cracks)
  • Never expose the digital module directly to rain without a cover

Why we love it

We chose Fontana because they've been building ovens in Italy since 1978. The Volta 90 is our pick for hosts who want digital precision AND capacity: three pizzas back to back, app control, without having to watch the flame.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? We're here to help! Call us at 1-888-606-7499

Contact us
What's the difference between the Volta 90 and the Volta 70?
The Volta 90 has a 40% bigger cooking surface (672 sq in vs 480), with a more powerful burner (72,000 BTU vs 61,500). Three 12" pizzas vs two for the 70. Same digital tech and same Italian build quality. If you regularly host six people and up, the 90 is worth the step up.
Can the Volta 90 really cook on wood?
Yes, with the hybrid kit sold separately. The wood grate sits just above the gas burner, without reducing cooking space. You get the live wood flame and Italian cook character, with the option to switch back to gas when you want simplicity.
Do I need electricity to run the Volta 90?
Yes, the digital module needs a standard 120V outlet. The oven itself runs on gas, but the control module, display, and probes need to be plugged in. Plan for a protected outdoor outlet near your install location.
How long does heat-up take?
About 30 minutes to reach 750°F (400°C), perfect for cooking pizza. The 72,000 BTU burner and digital tech cut heat-up time by 20 to 25% compared to previous Fontana models. Max temp is 900°F (482°C).
Are the Saputo stones worth it?
If you want real Neapolitan at 900°F in 60 to 90 seconds, yes, they change the game. Saputo stones are made from alluvial clay near Naples, and they're the only surface that handles those temperatures without burning the dough. For New York-style or slower cooks, the standard stones do the job just fine.
What's the warranty on the Volta 90?
Fontana offers 2 years against manufacturing defects. Our Lapizzashop team handles every warranty claim in English or French, directly with Fontana. For complete terms, reach out. If anything ever goes wrong, you call or write, we handle it with you.
